If possible, blood should be taken in an upright sitting position in the morning between 8:00 - 10:00 a.m. after a 15-minute rest period in a sitting position. The patient should have been in an upright position (sitting, standing or walking) for at least 2 h beforehand. Diuretics and antihypertensives should be discontinued 8 days beforehand. Stop taking aldosterone antagonists at least 4 weeks beforehand.
